We're thrilled to announce that a beehive will soon be arriving at our community garden, marking a major milestone in our sustainability efforts. The bees will play a crucial role in enhancing our garden’s ecosystem by pollinating our orchard and vegetable plants, which will significantly improve both the quality and quantity of future harvests. Their pollination will support healthier crops, greater biodiversity, and a more vibrant, flourishing garden.
In addition to supporting plant life, the bees will eventually provide us with fresh, local honey—a resource we aim to harvest for the benefit of the community. This initiative also offers a unique learning opportunity for our volunteers, as a small team will receive beekeeping training, generously sponsored by Bendigo Bank - Community Bank Keilor East. This training will not only equip us with essential skills but also deepen our connection with the environment and raise awareness about the vital role bees play in sustainable gardening.
We’re also collaborating with the Moonee Valley Beekeepers Club Inc., and some of our members recently attended their event for hands-on training and to gain a better understanding of beekeeping.
We’re excited to see the positive impact this new addition will bring to our garden and the community!
